Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a report that has claimed Dwight Gayle is a target for Fulham.

According to the Daily Mail, Scott Parker is keen to bolster his squad by adding the 30-year-old, amid an impending relegation battle for the Cottagers.

Gayle has again struggled for fitness in 2020/21, but that seemingly isn’t an issue for Fulham, who need an alternative to Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Mail say Gayle is a long-term target of Fulham, who would like to finally land the player this month, rather than wait until the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Apparently, Cottagers officials are considering proposing a cut-price fee, which would increase if Gayle helped the club survive relegation.

Also in the hunt for Gayle – who cost a reported £10 million back in 2016 (BBC Sport) – according to the report are Al-Gharafa, Al-Duhail and Al-Shabab.

The Magpies would arguably be taking a real risk by allowing Gayle to join Fulham, especially since the club could well end up in a relegation battle with the Cottagers at the end of the season.

On social media, Fulham’s link to Gayle has been picked up by some Newcastle fans, and largely it appears they would rather see the club keep hold of the striker.
