Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark has reportedly emerged as a target for Crystal Palace.
According to The Telegraph, the Eagles are looking at a potential deal to bring the 31-year-old to Selhurst Park.
£35,000-a-week star Clark (Spotrac) has become much more involved for Newcastle of late, making six Premier League starts since mid-December.
The Republic of Ireland international has done well in the Magpies’ backline, but his future is uncertain at the moment.
Clark’s current contract is expiring at the end of the season, and that puts Newcastle in a precarious position.
Steve Bruce is said to want to keep him and it’s been reported the club are hoping he’ll sign an extension, but the player may well wish to seek pastures new.
It’s explained by The Telegraph that Mamadou Sakho could leave Palace and the club are therefore looking at potential replacements, with Clark an option.
On social media, Magpies fans have been giving their reactions to the report about Clark.
It seems that some really do not like the idea of him leaving on a free transfer:
Palace can do one

He’s been such a solid player for us whenever he plays. Rarely less than a 7, has a goals threat, can step out with the ball – would be a shame if we can’t offer an extension

if he goes for nowt it’s criminal https://t.co/HoAGTZfjwo

Be an absolute travesty if Clark goes like. Probably our most underrated player – consistently solid performances and popping up with goal threat from set pieces too. Dire if we let him go mind.
