Some Newcastle United fans have been discussing whether Matt Ritchie should be allowed to depart St. James’ Park.

The 31-year-old has over two years remaining on his contract at the club, but has in recent days been linked with a move away.

The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has reported that Bournemouth are trying to re-sign the player, whom they sold for around £12 million in 2016 (BBC Sport).

Ritchie spent three-and-a-half years at the Vitality Stadium before moving to Newcastle, and the Cherries are apparently keen for him to enjoy a second stint.

There has been some talk of a swap deal involving Philip Billing moving the other way (The Sun).

It seems that there is a real split amongst Newcastle fans on social media about Ritchie and the idea of him leaving.

There are people that don’t believe he has the necessary quality. Others reckon sanctioning his exit would be a big mistake given his character and dressing room influence.

Newcastle would definitely be taking a risk if they did decide to let him go.

Not only does Ritchie have quality from set-pieces, but he also offers decent versatility and is one of few left-footers in the squad, which is always a plus.
