According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are interested in re-signing Lewis Gibson from Everton.
The defender left the Magpies in 2017 to join Everton, with the Toffees reportedly paying £6 million for his services. That was a hell of a lot of money for a player who was just 17 at the time. It suggested that Everton were signing a player with real potential and that Newcastle were making a big mistake in losing him.
But two years on, Gibson is yet to make his Premier League debut. And the Daily Mail report that he could be tempted to return now that Peter Beardsley has departed the club.
The former youth coach was at the centre of Gibson’s exit in 2017, with the teenager reportedly making a complaint about Beardsley.
Nothing was done and Gibson left. Following allegations of racism, Beardsley was placed on leave in January 2018 and eventually left the club earlier this year. In September he was found guilty by the FA.
So with Beardsley gone, there is now talk that Gibson could return, with his contract at Everton set to expire next summer. He’s friends with the Longstaffs, who dominated the midfield against Manchester United last weekend.
If he were to return, Sir John Hall’s dream of a team of Geordies could be even closer. But what do the fans make of talk of Gibson returning?
Newcastle fans react to talk of Lewis Gibson return
Yeah I’m sure he’ll be rushing back after the way #nufc dealt with the Beardsley debacle 😅

This would either seem unlikely or that Everton have cooled on him that much despite paying £6m which should be a major red flag.

So he’s not being kept after EFC investing £6m plus wages for him? Sounds ominous

What’s he done since he left ??

Was Beardsley sacked? I though NUFC had put him on gardening leave and let his contract run down instead of dealing with any of it? Would he really want to return to a club that allowed the bullying and stood by the accused? Same people are still at the top.
