Newcastle fans are chuffed about update on reported move for Glenn Murray

For about 10 minutes, Glenn Murray was pencilled in as the man to fix all of Newcastle’s problems.

The Guardian reported that the Magpies were competing with Aston Villa to sign the 36-year-old from Brighton, with both sides eyeing a six-month deal.

It seemed a left-field rumour, and perennial party pooper Lee Ryder was quick to put it to bed.

While the Chronicle reporter is often the bearer of bad news, this is an update that has been welcomed on Tyneside.

We’re desperate for a striker, but not that desperate. Murray has been great the past two seasons, hitting double figures in back to back campaigns, but he’s now out of favour at the Amex.

He’s never been the quickest, and it was hard to see the 36-year-old being the man to breath new life into Steve Bruce’s Newcastle side.

Silly season is truly upon us, and Murray to Newcastle is probably just the first of many ridiculous rumours to involve the Magpies this month.

Fans are grateful for Ryder’s update on Murray
