A report on the TEAMtalk website claimed Newcastle have been handed the opportunity to re-sign former striker Papiss Cisse, in what is the more bizarre transfer links.
It is claimed Cisse’s agents are putting his name to a number of Premier League sides, with their client being out of contract in the summer, and available for a reported fee of around £3 million.
I suppose it was only natural that Newcastle would be mentioned, due to the obvious connection between the player and club, but there is virtually zero chance of any genuine interest from St James’ Park.
Toon fans are used to seeing names of players linked, whether they are unheard of, or unrealistic, and they are usually taken with a rather large pinch of salt.
Report claimed Newcastle signing Cisse would please fans
The report actually claimed a move for their former star would be popular among the Newcastle supporters, but I think that is a bit wide of the mark.
Cisse will always be remembered fondly by fans, largely thanks to his goals – in particular, the memorable brace he scored at Stamford Bridge – and his partnership with Demba Ba.
But judging from the social media comments from a number of Toon fans, memories of his previous achievements in the black and white shirt are preferable to seeing him wearing it again in.
Here are some of the supporters’ comments:
The way we play parking the bus and hoofing it? No thanks, we need to get @petercrouch out of retirement.

The only way Ashley is bringing in a 34 yr old is if he offers to manage NUFC for a lower salary than Bruce
