Newcastle United are reportedly facing competition to sign Matheus Nunes in the form of Everton.
According to Record, the Toffees covet the Sporting CP midfielder, and are apparently in advanced talks over a £17 million transfer.
Record add that Newcastle have been left behind in the race for the 22-year-old.
WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.
Newcastle have been linked with Nunes for a while.
It was claimed back in January that the Magpies actually tabled an £11 million offer.
That was batted away by Sporting, who were keen to keep their squad together amid a title charge that ultimately successful.
He made 31 league appearances in 2020/21, but only 12 of those were starts.
That ratio would suggest that an exit from the club is more than reasonable for the player this summer.
Newcastle need to act
If Nunes is genuinely a target then Newcastle need to get a move on.
There is talk that Nuno Espirito Santo might be taking over at Goodison Park.
That could be a big lure for Brazilian Nunes who, like Nuno, is a Portuguese speaker.
Toon fans won’t hold their breath though.
