Newcastle could sign defender with same agent as Trippier if they have enough money

Newcastle United want to sign a left-back and a right-back this summer, and could get both with Kyle Walker-Peters.

The Southampton defender has suffered relegation to the Championship, but will be keen to continue his career in the Premier League as soon as possible.

Eddie Howe could give him that opportunity, with Newcastle linked with making a move for the 26-year-old England international this summer.

Walker-Peters could prove to be a smart addition to Howe’s squad, and the Daily Mail have shed some more light on Newcastle’s interest in the former Spurs fullback.

Newcastle keen on Kyle Walker-Peters

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle retain an interest in Walker-Peters, and could make a move to sign him if they have enough money left in the transfer budget after they have completed their priority signings.

One is set to arrive soon, with Sandro Tonali due to arrive from AC Milan. Newcastle are also interested in signing an attacking midfielder, with James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai both linked.

Once either one of those players or an alternative arrives, it sounds like Newcastle will turn their attentions to the defence.

Left-back appears to be the position that Newcastle want to strengthen the most, while more cover is needed at right-back. Kieran Trippier cannot play every game, while Harrison Ashby is not ready for a regular role in the first-team just yet.

That is why a deal for Walker-Peters makes sense, as he is capable of playing on both sides. He will also likely be a lot cheaper than main target Kieran Tierney, who Arsenal reportedly value at £30million.

That could force the Magpies to look elsewhere, and Walker-Peters could be a sensible alternative. We also have the luxury of KWP sharing an agent with Kieran Trippier, which could help during negotiations – if we do decide to make a move.
