Eddie Howe is working with multiple players he has a history with at Newcastle United right now.

He managed Kieran Trippier at Burnley, while Howe is also working with Callum Wilson and Matt Ritchie, who were part of his famous Bournemouth team.

The Newcastle United manager likes players who he can rely on and trust, which is why it is not a major surprise to see the Magpies linked with a move for Lloyd Kelly.

The 25-year-old was brought to Bournemouth by Eddie Howe back when he was in charge, and has since been linked with a move to St James’ Park. He was a target shortly after the takeover, with Howe looking to boost his squad and avoid relegation.

Newcastle did avoid relegation, but they did it without Kelly. He remained at Bournemouth, but questions surrounding his future remain.

His Cherries contract expires next year, leading rumours that he could leave the Vitality Stadium very soon. Newcastle are one of the clubs that have been linked, but a new report from TEAMtalk suggests that Bournemouth are doing all they can to keep him where he is.

Bournemouth have a plan to stop Newcastle signing Lloyd Kelly

According to TEAMtalk, Bournemouth have offered Kelly their best contract ever in a bid to get him to remain with the club.

They state that Newcastle are one of the clubs considering a move for Kelly, who could either leave on the cheap in January or for free in the summer – if he opts against signing a new contract.

TEAMtalk add that Kelly is yet to make a decision and is weighing up his options, while Bournemouth are reluctant to sell him as they believe he is vital to their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Andoni Iraola’s side are currently 14th, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

A move to St James’ Park would see Kelly add more depth in defence. He is a left-sided centre-back, which would mean he would be competing with Sven Botman for a place in the starting XI.

Howe is clearly a fan. He brought him to Bournemouth from Bristol City, then tried to sign him for Newcastle.

Now Howe is targeting his former player once again, as he looks to reunite with someone who he was ‘blown away’ by shortly after meeting him.
