Newcastle United may now raid Leeds United for their USA international midfielder, Tyler Adams this summer.

Newcastle look set to raid yesterday’s opponents, Leeds United for potential summer transfers. However it’s not Jack Harrison who we tried to sign in January, or Wilfried Gnonto who has had such an impressive debut season in England, it’s Tyler Adams who has caught the Magpies’ eye.

Another Leeds Player who is having an impressive first season in England, Adams arrived at Elland Road from RB Leipzig for £20million in the summer has been one of the Yorkshire club’s standout players in what has been a tough season.

Arsenal are also contemplating a move for the 24-year-old according to transfer insider, Dean Jones. Jones told GiveMeSport: “It’s also extremely hard to see how Leeds keep hold of Adams if they go down. There will be top Premier League clubs looking at him and I think there is actually something in the Newcastle and Arsenal rumours.”

Defensive midfielder, Adams has been Leeds best player this season according to Sofascore ratings, averaging 6.98 – excluding youngster Darko Gyabi who tops the chart but has played only three games.

The USMNT captain played for New York Red Bulls before switching to Red Bull Leipzig and then making his move to the Premier League. This season he has played 24 times for Leeds in the Premier League, plus two FA Cup appearances. While he has no goals or assists to show for these performances, but his tackling and passing stats more than make up for it.

Adams averages 3.7 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game according to WhoScored along with an 82% pass completion rate.

Adams and Gnonto would be brilliant signings from Leeds

Newcastle are very keen to add a defensively minded midfielder to the ranks this summer and Adams definitely falls into that category.

If Leeds can avoid the drop they will feel they’re better placed to hold on to him, but if they fall out of the Premier League there could be a battle between some of England’s top clubs over Adams and potentially a couple of other players who have managed to stand out despite Leeds’ awful form.

If Leeds go down Newcastle could swoop and pick up Adams and Gnonto then I’d feel that we’d done the best possible business from Leeds’ misfortune.
