Newcastle United could be set to miss out on another talented prospect after PSG activate a staggering buy-back clause for Xavi Simons.

Despite only leaving Paris Saint-Germain to move to PSV, 20-year-old midfielder Xavi Simons could be heading back to the French capital as the Ligue 1 side have activated a £5.1million buy-back clause.

Newcastle and Arsenal will be watching developments closely with both sides keen on the young Dutch attacker according to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter.

PSV must accept the bid from PSG but Xavi Simons has final say

The Daily Mail says that although PSV have no option but to accept the £5.1million approach from PSV, the player can still refuse to return if he’d prefer to stay at PSV, or even move elsewhere.

Xavi Simons only has until the end of the month to let PSG know his decision as the clause is no longer active at the end of July.

If Newcastle, or any other club, were to try and tempt Xavi Simons away from PSV they’d probably have to start their bidding at around £41million which shows how brilliant a move that buy-back clause was by PSG.

Xavi Simons looks like a difficult one for Newcastle to pull off this summer

In his first season in the Eredivisie Xavi Simons helped PSV finish second in the league by scoring 21 goals in 44 games, it’s no wonder then that PSG may be feeling sellers remorse and want him back and after PSV played Arsenal, Kevin Campbell called him ‘excellent‘ saying that he ‘destroyed’ Arsenal.

It’s now just down to where Xavi Simons sees his future and whether Eddie Howe stands any chance of signing the youngster. He has just changed agents to English duo Darren Dein and Stuart Peters which hints that he may be considering another move. Unfortunately for Newcastle, the aforementioned agents have strong ties to Arsenal.

Xavi Simons looks like a quality player and it’s little wonder PSG and Arsenal are in the mix. It looks like a very difficult one for Newcastle to do given the competition and the crazy clause in play, but it’s another sign that our scouts are looking in the right places.
