Newcastle United could be set to lock horns with Tottenham again in the transfer market with both clubs now eyeing up Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.
According to 90mins, Tottenham have already made their move for 24-year-old Edmond Tapsoba and are already in talks with the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.
However, the report goes on to say that Spurs will face competition from rival Premier League clubs with Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle being informed of Tapsoba’s situation.
Newcastle need a right-sided centre-back this summer
Newcastle are looking for a right-sided centre-back to play alongside Sven Botman with Fabian Schar now the wrong side of 30.
Burkina Faso international Tapsoba has been described by the Bundesliga website has having ‘frightening heading abilities’ as well as possessing ‘incredible composure, speed, strength and exceptional passing ability.’

Tapsoba made 47 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen last season and even popped up with two goals and two assists. His performances earned him universal praise, catching the eye of Europe’s elite.
Tottenham might be too far ahead in the race for Tapsoba
Arsenal were interested in him but were put off by Leverkusen’s £47million asking price and instead turned their attention to Jurrien Timber from Ajax.

It seems that Newcastle may have been a bit late to the party with reports also suggesting that Tapsoba is keen to join Tottenham. If we are to stand any chance with this one we will have to move quickly to catch up to Spurs and make sure we offer him something to turn his head like, oh I don’t know, Champions League football.
Tapsoba sounds fantastic according to many reports, but I feel we’ve let this one slip by, if indeed the interest in genuine.
