Newcastle United have registered their interest among other European sides in an exciting young talent who has been compared to Bukayo Saka.

Since the takeover of Newcastle in 2021, the club have set out a long-term plan to become one of the best clubs in Europe and in doing so becoming a hotbed for young players to develop into stars.

One of their latest targets is 18-year-old Arsenal winger Amario Cozier-Duberry, according to The Evening Standard, who could be available for free this summer and is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund.

Newcastle target could be as good as Bukayo Saka one day

Newcastle already have an exciting young core in their squad with the likes of Lewis Miley, Lewis Hall, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento all 22-years-old or younger.

The future looks very bright for the Magpies, especially with a young manager like Eddie Howe who also still has plenty of room to grow, and they may look to add to that young core this summer.

Cozier-Duberry has been very impressive during his five years in Arsenals youth squads, helping them to reach the FA Youth Cup final last year which they ultimately lost to West Ham.

Jack Wilshere, former Arsenal man and Under-18s manager for the Gunners, has suggested that the teenager could become as good as Bukayo Saka if he improves his decision-making in years to come.

The attacker, who primarily plays on the right, is very quick with the ball with a low centre of gravity and is effective at cutting in on his left to get a shot away, but there are still lots of things for him to improve on.

Speaking to The Athletic in 2023, Wilshere said: “Amario is very exciting and Mikel [Arteta] likes him. He reminds me of Bukayo Saka, plays in the same position as him, needs to get better with his decision-making like Bukayo did, but he’s definitely exciting.

“In some moments he’s unplayable. You give him the ball and he can make things happen. You can set up a team and have a game plan, but when you’ve got individuals like that you’ve got a chance.”

Newcastle could sign ‘exciting’ teenager on a free

Cozier-Duberry is yet to make his debut for Arsenal but it’s understood that the Premier League club are keen to keep him around the first-team players to help his development.

One problem that the Gunners do have is that the attacker’s contract will expire in six months time, meaning there have been a number of clubs keeping an eye on his situation, including Newcastle.

Dortmund, Ajax and Anderlecht are all believed to be keen on attain the young man’s signature according to the report, while there are also some Championship clubs wanting to take him on loan, though Arsenal expect him to stay until the end of the season.

If Wilshere is correct and Cozier-Duberry can reach the standards of Saka, who is still very young himself at 22, it would be a no brainer for Newcastle to want to secure him as a future Geordie star.
