Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has garnered himself a sterling reputation in Italy, but he could find himself in the Premier League next season with Newcastle United and Arsenal on his trail.

Both clubs have been interested in the 6’4″ Serbian for a while but were put off by the £105million asking price slapped on him by Lazio president Claudio Lotito as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

Now his representatives are trying to engineer a move to the Premier League for around £30-£35million according to a report from Gazzetta in Italy.

Milinkovic-Savic looks set for the Premier League

It’s believed that Lazio would be willing to agree to a fee of £44million but Milinkovic-Savic‘s agents believe they can get that down further to ensure that their client gets the move.

Newcastle are among several Premier League clubs to have been linked with a move for Milinkovic-Savic along with Arsenal, West Ham and Tottenham. Realistically you’d have to say table-toppers Arsenal are frontrunners in that pack by virtue of their league position.

Premier League champions are going to appeal to anyone wanting to make the move to England to prove themselves further, so Newcastle will have to go hard if they are serious about pipping Arsenal to the post.

The 28-year-old has had at least 15 goal involvements in each of the last three seasons and despite a perceived dip in form since the turn of the year, he remains on target to match that total again this term.

Newcastle could land a monumental bargain

Figures like that will make him a hot commodity in the summer transfer window and it won’t just be English clubs casting their eye on the star who has been called ‘the best midfielder in Italy‘.

90mins profiled Milinkovic-Savic in 2020 and referred to him as ‘astonishingly gifted’ with the ball at his feet despite his hulking frame, noting that he still had his best years ahead of him. Milinkovic-Savic will now be hitting the peak of his powers making him the perfect target.

If Newcastle could snap up ‘The Sergeant‘ for £35million it could be another bargain of Kieran Trippier proportions.
