Newcastle United have not used the loan market much since the takeover.
There have been plenty of big money transfers, but only a couple of players have joined Newcastle United on loan.
The first was Matt Targett, who arrived from Aston Villa in January 2022. He played so well that the Magpies signed him permanently for £15million.
The second was Lewis Hall. He arrived on loan from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, but the deal included an obligation for Newcastle to buy him in 2024 if certain criteria was met. That criteria was met, and Newcastle paid £28million for Hall this summer.
Real Madrid could let Arda Guler leave on loan
Loans are not part of Newcastle’s transfer plan ahead of January, but an opportunity could present itself for a player who the Magpies are looking at and have targeted in the past.
That is according TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Arda Guler’s situation at Real Madrid heading towards the January transfer window.

“My understanding from the Real Madrid end is that they love him, and the hierarchy think he is a massive talent,” he said.
“But the player himself is gutted he’s not getting more playing time, having had such a good Euros. But this is Real Madrid at the end of the day. They’ve had Mbappe and Endrick come in, while Vinicus Junior is at the top of his game. And that’s before you even mention Jude Bellingham.
“From my understanding, Guler could be available on loan.
“Signing players on loan isn’t something that is in Newcastle’s plans, but look back at what Arsenal did with Martin Odegaard. He is now one of the Premier League’s best players.
“I think Guler may be available. But he may want to stay at Real Madrid and fight for his position. He needs to be playing right now. He’s a top talent and his future is certainly interesting.
“Newcastle are paying attention to his situation. By December we will get a clearer indication over whether a loan is a possibility.”
What happened with Martin Odegaard and Arsenal
Martin Odegaard is the Arsenal captain right now, having established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.
However, his Arsenal journey started with a loan move from Real Madrid. In the first half of the 2020/21 season, Los Blancos barely used Odegaard, with the attacking midfielder making just nine appearances in all competitions.
That prompted a loan exit in January 2021, with Arsenal securing the services of a player who started playing professional football at 15-years-old.
After a successful loan spell, Arsenal were able to complete a permanent deal for Odegaard. It has proven to be one of their best bits of business in recent years, and it all started with a loan deal.
Newcastle have targeted Arda Guler before
Bailey has suggested that someone could replicate that with Guler, with Newcastle floated as a possible option.
He might be available in January, with Guler frustrated by his lack of minutes under Carlo Ancelotti. He has made 11 appearances so far this season, three of which were as a starter.
Guler is an attacking midfielder who can also play on the right of attack, which means he would certainly be of use to Eddie Howe. It has been reported that Newcastle’s January priority is to sign a right winger.
In fact, he is a player that Toon officials know all about. Newcastle tried to sign Guler before his move to Real Madrid, and Bailey believes that the Magpies are continuing to keep an eye on the 19-year-old.
He might be available on loan in January, and that possibly could hand Newcastle United an unexpected opportunity.
