Newcastle United are now one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing Samuel Chukwueze from Villareal.

Estadio Deportivo in Spain has reported that Newcastle have joined the queue for Nigerian sensation Samuel Chuckwueze of Villareal. However, it seems they may face competition from Premier League rivals for the 23-year-old winger.

Chukwueze has been in inspired form for Villareal this season, recently bagging a brace at the Bernabeu in their 3-2 win over Real Madrid. He’s managed 13 goals and 11 assists from 46 games for the La Liga side.

Newcastle would see Chukwueze as a replacement for Saint-Maximin

According to the report, Newcastle would look to sign Chukwueze as a direct for Allan Saint-Maximin should they sell the Frenchman in the summer, which many think is still very likely despite noises from inside the club indicating otherwise.

The Nigerian’s contract expires at Villareal in 2024 and he apparently has no intention so sign a new one, so Villareal will likely want to cash in on him this summer while he still carries a decent price. In fact, it’s believed that he has a £69million release clause in his current deal, but whether Villareal will expect anyone to pay that given his contract status is unlikely.

Samuel Eto’o called Chukwueze ‘incredible’

Chukwueze has been described as ‘incredible‘ by none other than Samuel Eto’o and has been tracked by several Premier League clubs over the years with Everton thinking they’d got him on loan last summer, but no deal was struck. The loan would have included an obligation to buy for £38million.

Now it’s believed Arsenal have been looking at Chukwueze and could be more inclined to part with that kind of money for him over Newcastle whose shopping list is rather extensive, so we’ll need to be more savvy.

If there’s scope to negotiate on his fee to bring that £69million closer to the £38million Everton would have had to pay, then I say go for it, but I’m not 100% on this one.
