Newcastle have long been linked with a move for Marcus Thuram of Borussia Monchengladbach and are now reportedly “in the lead” for his signature.
This is according to Calciomercato who claim that English clubs will be in a position to offer better financial packages to the Frenchman. This claim will be music to Allan Saint-Maximin’s ears as he has previously spoken of his desire to see Thuram at Newcastle. The same report also adds that the pair enjoy a ‘close friendship’.

‘Newcastle can guarantee a rich salary’
Marcus Thuram‘s contract with Monchengladbach his up at the end of this season and clubs are already circling to pick off the striker with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and several English clubs along with Newcastle having been mentioned as potential destinations.
Calciomercato claims that Newcastle are “in the lead” for Thuram seem to be based purely on the fact that we have wealthy owners with the line being. The thinking seemingly being that Newcastle are the “richest club” and therefore sit in pole position.
There’s no actual concrete evidence that Newcastle have even made an approach for Thuram yet, it’s just pure speculation based on our financial standing, which we see a lot of.

We will need cover to compete in Europe
That being said, though, Marcus Thuram would be a quality addition to Newcastle’s squad, especially if we secure European football for next season. We will need more quality cover for nearly every position if we are to remain competitive for the entire season with the extra fixtures.

The son of France legend, Lilian, Marcus Thuram showed his class for France in the recent World Cup earning praise for his performances for the eventual runners up.
Picking up a player of his talent on a free will be fantastic business, but such a deal would also likely mean that the club would have to pay through the nose when it comes to salary and bonuses meaning they’d have to seriously reconsider their current wage structure.
