Newcastle are now going to accelerate their attempts to sign ‘outstanding’ player

Two thirds of the signings made by Newcastle United this summer have been goalkeepers.

Indeed, Newcastle have brought in Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy from Nottingham Forest and Birmingham respectively.

It now means Eddie Howe has five goalkeepers in his squad, with the pair joining Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Mark Gillespie at St James’ Park.

Ruddy is surely a replacement for the released Loris Karius as the experienced third-choice option and Dubravka has been linked with a move away but that does feel like a lot of players in one position.

Now, it seems as if Newcastle are ready to accelerate plans to try and add to the numbers.

James Trafford, hailed as “outstanding” by current Newcastle star Anthony Gordon, remains a big target and there has now been a fresh development.

Newcastle will soon make a fresh bid to sign James Trafford

According to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, Newcastle will soon make another bid to sign the Burnley goalkeeper.

They had failed with a £16m offer but will reportedly try and move closer to Trafford’s £30m valuation in their second attempt.

It is believed that figures at Newcastle see the 21-year-old as a future No.1.

James Trafford wants to sign for Newcastle

The player himself is said to be keen to join Newcastle this summer.

While there is no agreement between the two clubs, The Northern Echo last month claimed the former Manchester City youngster is eager to make the move.

That is hardly surprising given the fact the Clarets were relegated of course but it is a factor that hopefully speeds up the process should Newcastle finally tempt the Lancashire club into selling.

With the wages involved seemingly unlikely to prove much of a problem, all that’s left is to get a deal with Burnley done.
