Newcastle United are set to be in the market for a striker this summer, and are reportedly interested in signing one of Europe’s hottest forwards.
While Eddie Howe already has two exceptional goalscorers who are at the top of their game, Newcastle are taking a look at a young man who has scored more goals than both of them.
The player in question is Elye Wahi, who has emerged as a target for the Magpies according to a new report in France.
Newcastle interested in Elye Wahi
According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle are ‘very interested’ in signing Wahi from Montpellier. The report states that Arsenal are keen on the Ligue 1 forward too.
There are also other clubs from across Europe who are casting admiring glances at Wahi. The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco are pondering a move for the 20-year-old striker, who could cost at least £34.7million.

The reason Wahi has so much interest and will command such a high fee is because of how he has performed for Montpellier this season.
The Frenchman hit double figures last season, scoring 10 times. And this season he has been even better. Wahi has 17 goals to his name, as well as five assists.
Four goals in 15 minutes
22 goal contributions is a stunning tally for a player so young, and four of them actually came during Montpellier’s most recent game.
They were beaten 5-4 by Lyon on Sunday, with all four of their goals being scored by Wahi. It was an incredible afternoon for the striker, made even more astonishing by the fact that his four-goal haul came in the space of 15 minutes.

His performance in defeat will no doubt have caught Newcastle’s attention, as they ponder a move for the young forward.
Wahi is enjoying an excellent season, and has scored more than Wilson (15) and Isak (10). However, a move to St James’ Park would perhaps be a surprise.
He is not going to want to arrive and be third choice, while Newcastle will not want to get involved in a bidding war for a player who clearly has a lot of suitors.
