Shea Charles has yet to make a first-team appearance for Manchester City but Newcastle United are looking to snap up the Northern Ireland international.
Newcastle‘s scouting network are on the lookout for hot prospects to bring into the fold at St James’ Park and have now set their sights on 19-year-old defensive midfielder Shea Charles who currently plays for Manchester City reserves. That is according to a report from The Daily Mail.
Shea Charles has played every game in the Premier League 2 for City this season and has earned himself a call-up to the senior Northern Ireland set-up. So far he has made six appearances for his country, representing them in the Euro 2024 qualifiers as well as the Nations League.
Charles is aware that breaking into the Manchester City first-team will be a tough ask with the quality they have on their books, but City do want to keep him. That is despite reports that they’re still looking to add more midfielders to their ranks this summer with Alexis MacAllister of Brighton and Gabri Veiga of Celta Vigo in their sights. The latter is also linked with Newcastle.
Manchester City will have their work cut out for them if they seriously want to keep hold of Charles as Newcastle are joined by Brentford, Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund in their admiration for the youngster.

With Charles only featuring for Man City in the Premier League 2 it’s difficult to gauge how good of a signing he would be for Newcastle, but the champions do have a fantastic academy and have produced some truly brilliant players.
Whether he’d be ready for the Premier League or not is something our scouts will be looking at, it’s also something that could influence where he ends up next term. It’s more likely he could break into the Brentford or Leeds first team easier than Newcastle or Dortmund.
However, if it’s a question of ambition, then Newcastle or Dortmund would be very attractive offers for Charles if he’s willing to be more patient.
It’s an interesting one to keep an eye on.
