Newcastle are interested in Danish playmaker Jesper Lindstrom

Newcastle United are looking at 23-year-old Danish forward Jesper Lindstrom from Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to a report in Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet there’s ‘massive interest’ in the young forward for the player who has been touted as having ‘huge potential’ by the publication in the past. He is now being followed by several of Europe’s top clubs.

Newcastle are one of several Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the ‘outstanding‘ playmaker who is expected to cost around £35million according to Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal are all keen to bring Lindstrom to England. Romano has said of Lindstrom: “There has been some strong speculation about Arsenal and Liverpool being in contact over trying to sign Jesper Lindstrom from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lindstrom could become the first £35m Danish player

“I’d never deny info from others; can just say that I’m told it’s true that Premier League clubs are informed on Lindstrom but I’m not aware of proposals, bids or advanced negotiations yet. Price tag could be around €40m. (£35million)”

Interestingly, if a move were to happen for the fee quoted by Fabrizio Romano, he’d become the first Danish player to break the £35million threshold (300 million DKK) according to Ekstra Bladet.

Lindstrom has seven goals and four assists in 22 Bundesliga outings this season as well as a goal in the Champions League.

Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League will be key

At 23 years old he fits the profile of an Eddie Howe signing as he likes to find good players for low prices and turn them into stars like Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman.

Newcastle are going to be very active in the transfer market this summer and attacking reinforcements are definitely on the list. A deal for James Maddison is looking increasingly shaky with the England playmaker reportedly keen on a move to Tottenham now, so Howe will have to make sure he has plenty of other options on the table if his long pursuit of Maddison bears no fruit.

With the interest in Lindstrom so huge, it’s not going to be an easy transfer to negotiate, but if Newcastle qualify for the Champions League it puts them in a better spot than Liverpool and Tottenham at least.
