Newcastle United are looking to rival Manchester City in their bid for an exciting young talent this summer window.
The Geordies have been scouring the globe for some of the best young talent in football having already attracted the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol to the club.
Now, a new report from OneFootball claims that Newcastle are one of the clubs in the mix to sign a 17-year-old Brazilian midfielder who has already made waves in South America.
Newcastle hoping to finally get one over City
Man City are far too used to having things their own way and having their pick of the best young players from around the world with very little resistance from other clubs.
Despite Newcastle now having wealthier owners, they can’t actually spend the money that they want to in order to get the club competing at the top with the likes of City.
However, making a move for Flamengo midfielder Lorran could be a big statement with the teenager proving to be one of the most exciting talents emerging out of South America at the moment.
Lorran has represented Brazil at both Under-16 and Under-17 level and now having refused to sign a new deal with his club, City, Newcastle and Crystal Palace have all been named as potential suitors for the young man.
His contract, which runs until the end of 2025, does included a release clause of £43m, though given his desire to leave it could be that those interested would be looking at a lower price.

Newcastle want more youth in their team
Looking towards the long-term, Newcastle have a number of players who are approaching or who have already entered their 30s and will likely be in their last couple of years in a black and white shirt.
Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron are perfect examples of players who have served the club well, but Newcastle must be ruthless enough, like City are, to move them along while they can still bring in a decent fee.
That will leave a big gap in the squad in transfer windows to come and Newcastle are hoping they will be able to promote some young talent at the same time instead of splashing out on big name players.
Lorran looks to be an exciting prospect who could develop into a star with the right coaching, but there’s a long way to go before he’s even considering playing at St James’ Park next season.
