While much of the attention regarding Newcastle United’s transfer activity has understandably been on the present, the club have also been looking to the future.

Garang Kuol, Harrison Ashby and Yankuba Minteh all represent young players with the ability to grow going forward as Newcastle continue to challenge the established elite.

Indeed, it’s not all been out superstar signing after superstar signing.

Even the likes of Sven Botman, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have so much of their careers ahead of them

So then, it’s hardly surprising to hear the club casting a keen eye over another exciting young player.

According to The Sun, Newcastle are interested in the signing of Blackburn youngster Adam Wharton.

Newcastle already have plan for Adam Wharton if they complete £15m deal

Both Newcastle and Everton are said to be interested, with the Championship club reportedly ready to demand up to £15m for their midfielder.

Still, while the Magpies and the Toffees are hardly on equal footing, it might be Sean Dyche’s side who hold an advantage.

The report suggests Newcastle see the 19-year-old as a long-term prospect and one they would loan back to Rovers should they complete a deal.

Everton, however may offer him Premier League football right away, which The Sun claims may be a “better sales pitch.”

Who is Adam Wharton and what is his style of play?

A product on the club’s academy, Wharton was born in Blackburn and made his debut just under a year ago.

Back in April, the Daily Mail noted Wharton had been described as a “taller Jack Wilshere.”

As reported by the Lancashire Telegraph in April, the 19-year-old has a “languid” style of play, praising his ability on the ball, albeit noting some concerns former Toon striker Jon Dahl Tomasson had about his work off it.

Still, as a young player with plenty of room to grow, there would appear to be a lot of promising signs.

Reportedly rated by Dan Ashworth, he’s certainly one to watch.
