Milan could replace Sandro Tonali with £200k-a-week player Newcastle wanted in January

As Sandro Tonali’s move to Newcastle United gathers pace, AC Milan are already looking for replacements with Christian Pulisic in a prime candidate for the move.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Newcastle were trying to land Christian Pulisic from Chelsea with the USMNT midfielder falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge, however a deal couldn’t be reached.

Since then, Newcastle have moved on to other targets and now, as they close in landing 23-year-old Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for around £60million, GOAL has said that AC Milan could now turn their attention to Pulisic as a replacement for Tonali.

Milan have a longstanding interest in Christian Pulisic

We mentioned yesterday that Chelsea were potentially interested in Tonali and could use MIlan’s interest in Pulisic to sway the deal in their favour, but it now seems that the Blues have missed their window for Tonali, but could still offload Pulisic anyway.

I love the odd twists that football throws up like this, how a player so strongly coveted by Newcastle for so long can now be the replacement for the player we bring in after giving up on said target.

Newcastle had recently performed a U-turn on their interest in Pulisic after being ‘obsessed‘ with him for months. Now we could end up with an even better prospect in the form of Tonali.

Pulisic could take a pay-cut to move to Milan to replace Tonali

The problem for Milan could be Pulisic’s £200,000-a-week wages, so unless the 24-year-old is willing to take a pay-cut, which is rumoured to be a possibility, his Chelsea nightmare could be set to continue.

Newcastle are definitely getting the better of this deal, and I say that as someone who was very much on board with the Christian Pulisic idea. It’s not really going well for him at Chelsea, but not a lot went right at Chelsea last season with them finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League.

However, when Pulisic pulls on that USA kit, he becomes a different animal, and that’s the player I would have liked to see at Newcastle at one point, but now, for me, he doesn’t come close to what we’re potentially getting with Tonali.
