Newcastle are in talks to sign Paris St Germain left-back Stanley N’soki, according to reports, but fans a worried the French side may insist Martin Dubravka being included in any deal.
Rumours emerged last week about the wealthy French champions being interested in a possible move for Newcastle’s goalkeeper, with Eintracht Frankfurt pursuing PSG’s stopper Kevin Trapp.
Whatever happens with the N’Soki talks, Newcastle must not be tempted into using Dubravka as part of any deal, and they must ensure that the Slovakian remains on Tyneside for years to come.
Dubravka was claimed to be one of a number players said to be considering their future following the departure of Rafa Benitez, but how true that speculation was remains to be seen.
A report in the Daily Star claims the popular keeper will not be leaving, which will be a relief to Toon fans concerned about the lack of pre-season appearances for the 30-year-old.
Newcastle need cover at full-back but not at expense of goalkeeper
Certainly Newcastle need competition at full-back, but to lose a key player in the process of doing so would simply replace one problem with another one.
And if Dubravka was sold, the problem created would far outweigh the one they were solving.
With doubts over the future of Freddie Woodman and Rob Elliott, it could conceivably mean only Karl Darlow – who is reportedly a target for Leeds – as the only other goalkeeper on the Newcastle books.
N’Soki would be a tremendous signing for Newcastle, but it would leave a sour taste if it meant Dubravka going the opposite way.
