Marcus Rashford has issued a new update on his future after surprise links with a move to Newcastle United.

The England forward does not appear to have much of a future at Manchester United, having spent part of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Rashford is currently on course to return to Old Trafford when pre-season starts, though his future beyond that point is unclear amid speculative suggestions that Newcastle United want him.

Newcastle were linked with Rashford, although it would look like a difficult deal to do even if Eddie Howe really was keen.

The 27-year-old is on a huge salary at Old Trafford and Newcastle’s wage structure does not offer that kind of money.

Still, as a high profile England international, an update on his future is noteworthy. Now, he’s confirmed the latest.

Marcus Rashford admits he’d like to play for Barcelona

The forward has been preparing for pre-season out in Spain.

During some of his training, Rashford spoke to Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz.

He was asked if he’d like to play alongside Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old is already considered one of the best players in world football, having made remarkable progress at such an early stage of his career.

Barca have long been linked with Rashford, who admitted: “Yes, for sure. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we’ll see.”

Eddie Howe has already addressed Newcastle United’s chances of signing Marcus Rashford

Newcastle’s transfer budget this summer could be £150million, so there’s certainly money for Howe to spend.

Still, the club must remain careful. Just because Newcastle are in a strong PSR position now, it doesn’t mean that will always be the case.

With that in mind, it’s hard to envisage a scenario in which the club pay the kind of wages Rashford is reportedly on.

Indeed, speaking after the final game of the Premier League season, Howe admitted Newcastle were unlikely to be able to afford established players on huge salaries.

“If you’re talking about someone at the very top, who is already established, then I think the wages and the financial package becomes difficult for us,” he said.

“Of course, it’s much easier for me to bring in a ready-made, established, world-class player, but I don’t think we’ve done that since I’ve been here because we haven’t been able to financially.”
