Newcastle United fans were dealt the shock news that Martin Dubravka is considering a move away from St James’ Park in January.

Eddie Howe is currently down to just two goalkeeper at Newcastle United due to an injury to Nick Pope.

The England goalkeeper is set to be out for around a month after injuring his knee against Brentford, which meant Martin Dubravka stepped in against Leicester.

However, in a turn of events, it’s been reported that Martin Dubravka has agreed a deal in principle to move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab in January.

This raised a few eyebrows due to it coming out of absolutely nowhere, and Luke Edwards has now provided an update on the situation.

Dubravka has had to bide his time this season with Pope in-between the sticks, but he was looking set to be the number one for the next month at least.

However, the news that he’s agreed to move to Saudi won’t help this, as Eddie Howe now has a decision to make with Odysseas Vlachodimos as the only other option.

Luke Edwards has revealed what’s going on with the goalkeeper and whether the rumours are in fact true.

Speaking on his personal account, he states that the rumour is concrete and Newcastle could receive a small fee that would help towards PSR.

PSR issues ongoing at Newcastle United

It’s a well known fact that Newcastle will be under a strict budget in January due to PSR.

Whilst there won’t be a huge sum of money involved with Dubravka, it would certainly help the situation, as well as getting him off the wage book.

He reportedly earns around £40k-a-week, which equates to around just over £2 million a year.

The fact he’s out of contract in the summer makes it even better if we can get a fee, though it does leave Howe short on options with Pope possibly out for half of January.
