Newcastle United fans did see some transfer activity on deadline day, albeit perhaps not the kind they were hoping for.
Newcastle decided not to make any signings during the January transfer window, something which is increasingly becoming the case.
Indeed, the club haven’t significantly strengthened the first-team since way back in the summer of 2023, although Newcastle insiders now think they are in a strong PSR position when it comes to the summer.
That should, at least in theory, see the club strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad at the end of the season.
Players, of course, left St James’ Park.
Miguel Almiron left to re-join Atlanta United, while Lloyd Kelly moved to Juventus on loan for the rest of the season. The move includes an obligation to buy should certain criteria be met.
Juventus have hailed the signing of Kelly, who never really got the chance to show himself under Howe at Newcastle.

Lloyd Kelly delivers first words as a Juventus player after leaving Newcastle United
It is no doubt a great move for the former Bournemouth defender, too.
Juve may not quite be the force of old but are undoubtedly still one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Kelly could also play Champions League football there too, with the Old Lady facing a two-legged play-off against PSV Eindhoven to reach the last-16 later this month.
Speaking to the club’s in-house media channel after completing his move to Turin on deadline day, Kelly said: “Hi Juventus fans, this is Lloyd Kelly here.
“I’m delighted to be here, I can’t wait to get started and hopefully have a successful rest of the season.
“Forza Juve!”
Lloyd Kelly is one of Newcastle United’s biggest sales of all time
Should Juventus pay the reported £15million to sign Kelly at the end of the season, Newcastle will be making a huge profit on a player they signed for free.
In fact, not all too many players have actually left Newcastle for that kind of money.
At that price point, Kelly would be Newcastle tenth-highest sale in history, underlining just what a good deal this could be.
It’s clearly not ideal to be losing a versatile player halfway through a season but that kind of money cannot be sniffed at.
