Liverpool star Alexander Isak breaks silence as £130m Newcastle United exit confirmed

Alexander Isak has spoken for the first time as a Liverpool player after leaving Newcastle United.

The biggest story of the summer was eventually won by player power. Isak’s behaviour reportedly forced Newcastle to lower their asking price for him and a move to Liverpool was confirmed on deadline day.

Liverpool have paid around £130million for Isak, who has signed a six-year deal at Anfield.

For Newcastle fans, it’s a bitter disappointment. Isak was well within his rights to want to leave the club but the manner in which it has all played out leaves a sour taste. One of the club’s greatest players in modern history has left under a cloud.

For Isak, meanwhile, he’s got exactly what he wanted. Now, he’s spoken of his delight.

Alexander Isak’s first message as a Liverpool player

The Sweden international talked to Liverpool’s official website after the move was confirmed.

He said: “I feel amazing.

“It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

Isak could make his debut for the Reds when they host Burnley on Sunday 14 September. He has not played since Newcastle’s defeat to Everton on Sunday 25 May.

When Newcastle United and Alexander Isak will meet again

Isak has avoided the prospect of returning to St James’ Park any time soon.

Indeed, Liverpool beat Newcastle 3-2 last week and barring any cup draws, they will not be back on Tyneside until the 2026/27 campaign begins.

Still, away supporters will get to vent their frustration at Isak when Newcastle travel to Liverpool on Saturday 31 January, 2026.

Where Newcastle are at that stage of the season is anyone’s guess. They’ve looked good in patches but will hope to kick on now the Isak saga has finally been wrapped up.

The Alexander Isak era is over for Newcastle United. They will rebuild, but no one is quite sure what it will look like.
