Newcastle-linked Nat Phillips has wowed Liverpool fans with his latest performance.

The centre-back was named in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI on Tuesday night for the Champions League clash with AC Milan.

It was a meaningless game for the Reds, who had already qualified for the next round and confirmed their place at the top of the group.

Klopp therefore made a plethora of changes to his team, including a first start since October for Phillips. It was only his second start of the entire season.

But he certainly impressed, playing up against the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The AC Milan stiker barely got any change out of Phillips, who look composed at the back despite his lack of minutes this season.

He even had time to pull out his party tricks, producing a wonderful piece of skill in his own box to dance past the men in red and black.

Liverpool fans stunned by Nat Phillips performance

Phillips could be a good signing for Newcastle

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle want to sign Phillips in January.

The Magpies desperately need a new centre-back, and the 24-year-old could be a decent option. While he isn’t the biggest name that has been linked, he could be a sensible addition.

Phillips impressed at times last season, thrown in at the deep end at Anfield amid their injury woes. But returns for Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have limited Phillips’ time on the pitch this season.

For that reason, he will surely want to secure a move away in January. He can’t be a back-up forever. And at Liverpool he’s got Van Dijk, Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate ahead of him in the pecking order.

Newcastle could be a great option for him. And based on his performance against AC Milan, he would be an excellent piece of business.
