Leeds reportedly make move for Newcastle-linked Jarrod Bowen

Jarrod Bowen is a wanted man in January, with Newcastle United reportedly keen to sign the Hull City talisman.

However, a Championship side could show us up. According to the Sun, second-placed Leeds United are also interested in signing Bowen.

The report states they will offer £3 million to loan the forward, then pay another £12 million if Marcelo Bielsa’s side achieve promotion.

If Hull agree, that would mean Bowen would eventually cost £15 million if Leeds go up this season. Surely that’s a bid we can match or even exceed? And Bowen would have less uncertainty, as we’re already in the Premier League and have a pretty good chance of survival.

But talk of Bowen moving to St James’ Park has disappeared, with the Magpies instead looking at other options such as Ademola Lookman.

Newcastle’s unwillingness to spend the money required could be exposed yet again, and this time by a team in a lower division. With all due respect to Leeds, there’s no way we should be missing out on a player of Bowen’s quality to a club in the second tier.

Steve Bruce has had a transfer summit with Mike Ashley, but it’s unknown how it went. Will the owner sanction the big money move that Bruce wants? If so, Bowen is the man we need.

Leeds are willing to spend big money to get to the Premier League, while as it stands Newcastle seem content to coast by with their top flight status on the line. It just doesn’t make sense.
