Kevin De Bruyne could scupper Newcastle United’s transfer plans.

While Newcastle United focus on retaining their top stars, Manchester City are preparing to lose one of their greatest ever players.

It has been announced that Kevin De Bruyne will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The 33-year-old is on his way out, and his Man City departure could have an impact on goings on at St James’ Park.

James McAtee latest as Newcastle United retain interest

James McAtee was linked with Newcastle in January, but remained at the Etihad. However, it was claimed that the £25million-rated midfielder could be targeted again when the summer transfer window arrives.

That still appears to be the case, with the Telegraph reporting that Newcastle United are one of multiple clubs that are tracking McAtee’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United and AC Milan are also mentioned as possible suitors, while the Telegraph also claim that Nottingham Forest are keen on the 22-year-old.

That is where De Bruyne comes into it, as McAtee would be targeted as a replacement for Morgan Gibbs-White, who has been identified as a possible De Bruyne replacement for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Signing Gibbs-White will not be cheap for Manchester City, as Geordie Boot Boys were recently told that Forest value the 25-year-old at £100million.

The Telegraph add that another possible De Bruyne replacement at Man City is Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. Interestingly, Bayer Leverkusen could target McAtee as a replacement too.

Kevin De Bruyne could remain in the Premier League

While De Bruyne’s looming departure could cause a chain of events that results in Newcastle missing out on McAtee, the Magpies not be finished with facing the Belgian superstar.

Ever since making an announcement on his Man City future, it has felt like De Bruyne will be heading to the MLS.

However, there is now the prospect of him remaining in the Premier League.

According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa have discussed signing De Bruyne on a free transfer.

The chance to remain in England could appeal to him, as it would mean he does not need to uproot his family.
