Newcastle United are seemingly heading for a deadline day of inaction, with journalists Luke Edwards and Craig Hope suggesting Hamza Choudhury is staying at Leicester City.
There had been an expectation that the Magpies would be able to get the English midfielder in on loan.
That was the desire of Newcastle, Leicester, Bruce and the player himself.

But Telegraph journalist Edwards has tweeted to say that the proposed move is now off.
He wrote: “Someone now appears to be briefing that Choudhury is not signing and business is done in this window.
“That would mean Bruce has been denied a loan he thought he could have. Whatever you think of him, this is scandalous. Leicester thought this was happening. So did player.”
Craig Hope has also reported he won’t be joining.
Choudhury is currently down in the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.
The likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Nampalys Mendy and Boubakary Soumare are all ahead of him.
It is currently unclear why this proposed move is seemingly now no longer happening.
But if it’s true, Bruce will likely be hugely frustrated an disappointed.
Choudhury is a player he has wanted in for a while.
He was linked back in January, but seemingly couldn’t move due to Leicester being unable to sign a replacement.
A nightmare window
Transfer deadline day moves extremely quickly and there could well be a few more twists and turns.
But this is a very concerning update from Edwards and Hope.

Perhaps some fans don’t rate Choudhury and won’t be too upset. But it’s the part about Newcastle being done in the window which is the most worrying thing.
It was obviously great that Joe Willock was re-signed.
But him being the only addition constitutes a poor window for the Magpies.
