Newcastle United are reportedly admirers of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
That is according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Johnstone, 28, remains the number one at the Hawthorns despite a really good season in 2020/21.
The campaign may have culminated in relegation for the Baggies, but Johnstone regularly came in for praise from fans and pundits.
So good was his form that he actually forced his way into the England squad. He made his debut in June the pre-Euro 2020 friendly against Romania at the Riverside Stadium.
The was then selected to go to the tournament by Gareth Southgate, but didn’t play.
Johnstone’s contract with Albion expires at the end of the season.
So there is a reasonable chance the club will be looking to offload so as to avoid him walking as a free agent.
Having said that, Johnstone is a key player for West Brom, who are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League.
Newcastle are apparently keen, but they aren’t the only admirers from the Premier League.
Crook said on talkSPORT earlier today: “I’m hearing Tottenham are joining the likes of Newcastle, Southampton and West Ham in showing a definite interest in Sam Johnstone.”
Newcastle moving for Sam Johnstone isn’t necessary
Johnstone is a great goalkeeper – but he simply isn’t what Newcastle need right now.
Martin Dubravka is a solid option between the sticks – it’s the defence in front of him that needs major surgery.
Centre-backs undoubtedly need to be the focus next month.

In all honesty, a whole new back four is probably something the club need to aim for.
Perhaps if Karl Darlow was angling for a move away as a result of playing second fiddle to Dubravka, then Newcastle should consider Johnstone.
But it’s unlikely he’d want to come unless he received assurances he’d be the number one.
