Newcastle United are trying to complete a deal for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, much to the delight of former Magpie Jose Enrique.

Eddie Howe’s side stepped up their bid to sign the 25-year-old last week, after it had previously been claimed that Newcastle were not going to pursue a deal.

But there has been a complete U-turn, and now there is seemingly confidence that Barnes is going to be on his way to St James’ Park. He is the man man who Howe wants, while the player is keen on the move.

Hopefully we see some movement this week, with a lot of fans keen to see Barnes in a black and white shirt.

Given his performances, Barnes looks like he would be a smart signing for Newcastle. And while he is not a glamorous name, former Toon defender Jose Enrique thinks he would be a brilliant addition to Howe’s squad.

Jose Enrique thinks Newcastle can ‘fly again’ with Harvey Barnes

Following a report about Newcastle’s interest in Barnes, Enrique has commented on him possibly joining the Magpies on his official Twitter account.

He wrote: “He will be a top signing for Newcastle. Not very expensive and perfect for the way Newcastle play. Newcastle mean business and I believe they are going to fly again next season.”

‘Newcastle mean business’

It remains to be seen how much Newcastle are going to have to pay for Barnes, but Enrique appears to be hopeful that he will not be too expensive.

That may or may not be the case, but the winger should still be an excellent signing. His numbers in the Premier League over the past few years are brilliant, and he looks like someone who could function really well in Howe’s team.

With the way Newcastle play, we create a lot of openings for our wingers. It is why Miguel Almiron was able to score 11 goals last season.

Barnes is a much better finisher than the Paraguayan, so should thrive at St James’ Park. Hopefully that is the case, and he proves to be the ‘perfect’ signing that Enrique thinks he can be.
