First Valentino Lazaro was coming coming to Newcastle. Then it was RB Leipzig. Now it appears it could be Newcastle again.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, the Magpies are once again ahead in the race to sign the 23-year-old.
The report states that Newcastle are looking to complete a deal quickly to avoid being beaten by the Bundesliga leaders.
The Lazaro transfer saga has been more dramatic than people ever expected. When his agent turned up at St James’ Park on Saturday, it seemed certain that the Austrian would become a Geordie.
But then RB Leipzig entered the race, and there was talk that Lazaro actually preferred a move there. You could understand why, with Leipzig currently top of the table and Lazaro previously performing well in Germany.
Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that a decision will be made tomorrow, and fingers crossed he decides that St James’ Park is the place for him.
He’ll certainly be welcome on Tyneside. While Newcastle got a late point at Everton, the performance set alarm bells ringing with the Magpies unable to lay a glove on the Toffees until stoppage time.
Newcastle need extra quality in offensive areas, and that’s something Lazaro can provide.
