Inter Milan still retain an interest in signing Allan Saint-Maximin this summer

Inter Milan have long been credited with an interest in Newcastle United’s tricky winger Allan Saint-Maximin and are weighing up their options for another move in the summer.

A report in The Daily Mail has claimed that Inter Milan will return in the summer for a more substantial bid for Allan Saint-Maximin after testing the water in January.

The Mail claims that Inter Milan and Sevilla both approached Newcastle in January with cheeky loan bids for the 26-year-old, but claim that Inter are more serious as they contemplate a summer bid.

Allan Saint-Maximin gave Diogo Dalot nightmares on Sunday

This news comes off the back of a brilliant display by Newcastle’s £20million man on Sunday when he had Manchester United‘s Diogo Dalot on toast all game.

When Maxi is on that kind of form there aren’t many better in his position in the Premier League. It is consistency that has been his big enemy at Newcastle. For every world-class performance there are two or three when he just doesn’t look interested or up to the pace of the game.

The Newcastle fanbase is very split on Saint-Maximin. There are those that worship the ground he walks on and others who think he’s not up to the task under Eddie Howe. I have been known to sway between both camps. I was definitely Team Worship on Sunday, I thought he was outstanding, back to his ‘unplayable‘ best but I’ll be the first to criticise him when I don’t think he’s pulling his weight.

There’s still a future for ASM at Newcastle despite Inter Milan’s interest

I’d love nothing more for Howe and Saint-Maximin to work together to find a way to fit together, but ultimately, I think their playstyles just don’t mesh. Despite some excellent outings, the staff constantly saying how much they value him and then Maxi himself saying he doesn’t want to leave, the reality is, if a good enough bid comes in this summer, he could be off.

If that does happen, I hope he does go to Inter Milan or at least I hope he goes abroad. I’d hate him to go to a Premier League rival and turn into Prime Lionel Messi and come back to haunt us.

I think it we’d be after making a decent profit if we were to sell. We shouldn’t entertain anything under £35million for him. I genuinely think a couple of years ago we could have asked £50million but his lack of game time and inconsistency when he has played this season will have had a huge effect on his value.

In an ideal world, Maxi will use these remaining games to prove he has the desire and the right attitude to stay at Newcastle and get back to his best on a consistent basis and we will slap a “hands off” sticker on his back.
