Newcastle United will be working on their transfer strategy now that the season is wrapping up but it seems that Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans’ name will not be on the shopping list.
Having secured Champions League football for next season, Newcastle now know which transfer supermarket they’ll be shopping in over the coming months as they look to build a team capable of challenging alongside Europe’s elite while maintaining a solid assault on the Premier League.
One player who likely won’t be pulling on the black and white next season is Youri Tielemans of Leicester as The Telegraph have reported that Newcastle no longer hold an interest in the player once said to be ‘incredible‘ and thought of as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Luke Edwards claims Youri Tielemans is not on Newcastle’s shopping list
The report from Luke Edwards didn’t go into any detail as to why, in fact it was pretty much a throwaway line in the article that just said “Youri Tielemans, who will be available on a free transfer, is not on Newcastle’s shopping list.”
There has been a lot of talk on social media from Leicester fans, and fans of other clubs too, that Tielemans has become lazy, and that would not work in Eddie Howe‘s pressing side. You can’t have “intensity is our identity” as the club’s motto and then sign players who have been touted as lazy.

Maddison was still able to produce top performances in the same poor side
Granted it has probably been hard for Tielemans to motivate himself this season playing in that lacklustre Leicester side, but a proper professional would rise above that and try and lift their teammates. James Maddison still had a belter of a season playing in that side.
Last season, maybe even in January too, I’d have happily have taken Tielemans off Leicester’s hands, but now I feel we are best off avoiding him. He’s still a great player, no doubt, but I don’t think he would fit in at Newcastle, and honestly, I’d rather have Joe Willock in the starting line up.
Tielemans is available on a free, so if Newcastle struggle elsewhere he might not be a bad option as a last resort, but ultimately, I think Eddie Howe will have targets in mind that are much more suited to his style of play.
