Harry Maguire’s Manchester United career looks to be coming to an end with Newcastle keen on the England international defender.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to pay £10million to grease the wheels for Harry Maguire to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils take on local rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final where it’s believed Maguire will be on the bench for his final outing in a Man United shirt.

It’s expected that Maguire would see his wages halved at a new club

Manchester United are aware that Maguire’s current wages will be an issue for any interested party and are willing to pay off the remainder of his contract to facilitate a move. Maguire has two years left on his £190,000-a-week contract and Man United are willing to pay him £10million to make a clean break.

That could reignite Newcastle‘s interest in Maguire who could be available for £30million. With his current club paying off his contract his wage demands won’t be as high and Newcastle might feel it’s a risk worth taking. In fact, the Daily Mail suggests that any new club would only look to pay half of his current wage.

Maguire is still a regular for Gareth Southgate‘s England side despite not featuring regularly for Man United, but the former Middlesbrough boss has warned ‘incredible‘ Maguire that he will soon lose his place if he’s not playing regular football.

Maguire’s experience could be invaluable to Newcastle next season

It’s a signing that could be seen as a poor move for Newcastle given Maguire’s drop off in form, but there’s still a quality player in there. He was excellent in Qatar for England during the World Cup, it just seems that he loses his way when he pulls on the red shirt of his club.

A move could reinvigorate Maguire and Newcastle could reap the benefits of his rejuvenation. I think now that there’s a chance we can get him on sensible wages, an experienced defender like Maguire would be an excellent addition to the squad to help us navigate the difficult season that lies ahead.
