Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to respond to a report from The Mirror, which states that we’re interested in landing Liverpool’s Divock Origi.
The Mirror also mention that Aston Villa, Fulham and Brighton are keen to sign the Belgian international, while Turkish side Fenerbahce are also mentioned as a potential destination.
While Origi is a big-game player who has netted huge goals for Liverpool, do we need him?
Admittedly, Yoshinori Muto has now departed for Eibar, so we’re a striker short.
However, Steve Bruce still has Joelinton, Andy Carroll and Callum Wilson to choose from, as well as Dwight Gayle.
The Mirror state that Liverpool value Origi at £30 million, which would be far too much for us to pay for a striker when we already have a number of options.
That money would probably be better spent signing some defensive reinforcements, as we’ll lack a bit of quality backup in that area when the likes of Jamal Lewis, Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles get injured or need a rest.
Having said that, it is exciting to see us linked with a Premier League and Champions League winner.
Even more so, a man who played a huge role in the latter success by scoring twice against Barcelona in the semi-final, and then against Tottenham in the final itself.
Let’s see what the Toon Army on Twitter are saying…

that’s literally exactly what we need, an above average striker who we can bring off the bench. (this isn’t sarcasm btw)😂

A perfect signing….a hard impact player who will get some game time with us. Why are we being linked with actual sensible signings?

This would be a good signing – #NUFC with two strikers who know where the goal is? How long has it been?!

Good signing if we can land him. Knows the PL well and more importantly can put the ball in the net unlike Joelinton and Carrol, hopefully this one gets over the line 🤞🏻#nufc
