The rumours of an Allan Saint-Maximin exit from Newcastle United grow ever stronger in the light of reports saying The Magpies are close to hitting their FFP limit.

Financial Fair Play was supposed to make things fairer for smaller clubs, but in reality all it has done is strengthen the position of the biggest clubs. It’s all well and good setting a limit on spending in order to decrease the disparity between the biggest and the smallest clubs, but when that limit is driven by the money the club generates it’s not closing the gap, it’s widening it.

That is why, despite being the “richest club in the world” Newcastle could now find themselves having to sell players if we want to sign any more this summer.

Allan Saint-Maximin will be sold to help balance Newcastle’s books

Unfortunately for a lot of fans, the only real saleable asset we have is Allain Saint-Maximin which means he could be living on borrowed time at Newcastle.

Saint-Maximin is a hugely popular figure on Tyneside given that he’s one of the most exciting players we’ve had at the club for a while. However, there are huge question marks over his consistency, his fitness and whether he fits into Eddie Howe’s way of playing.

It’s with all that in mind, and the fact that as far as potential outgoings go, he will be the one to bring in the most money, that Saint-Maximin finds himself repeatedly in the media as the potential big casualty this summer.

Now, speaking on his Matt and Mike podcast via The Telegraph on Twitter, journalist Matt Law has hinted that a move away could already be lined up for Saint-Maximin, saying: “I was told they have something lined up on Saint Maximin actually. I don’t know who but I am told they have something lined up on him.”

There have been a few interested parties in Allan Saint-Maximin

It was almost a throwaway line backed up with practically zero facts, but there has been talk of interest from the Saudi Pro League as well as Everton in the Premier League.

That’s the thing with Saint-Maximin, there will be clubs willing to take him and Newcastle could recoup around £35million for him if they’re clever. That will off-set the Harvey Barnes fee which is expected to be around the same.

Our other players who could be sold won’t bring £35million in combined, so we have to start moving popular players on, and like it or not, there’s nobody more primed for an exit that Allan Saint-Maximin.
