Newcastle United are set massively enhance their youth ranks with a new signing.

While Toon fans are hoping for first-team additions, the Newcastle United academy is set to welcome a new recruit.

The club have made a real effort in recent years to snap up youngsters with huge amounts of potential, in the hope that they blossom into first-team stars at St James’ Park. So far we have seen Alex Murphy play for Eddie Howe’s side, while the likes of Alfie Harrison and Trevan Sanusi are currently working with the Newcastle United first-team during pre-season.

The latter is only 17-years-old, but has made a real impression since his arrival on Tyneside. Now the club are moving to sign someone even younger, yet it is a player who has already made his professional debut.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Newcastle’s pursuit of Rory Finneran

It was reported in July that Newcastle United were confident about signing Rory Finneran from Blackburn Rovers.

It now looks like Toon officials were right to be confident, with Fabrizio Romano sharing a positive update on the 16-year-old’s future.

Romano wrote on X: “Understand Rory Finneran will sign his contract as new Newcastle player today. He’s considered a huge talent. Deal done.”

Newcastle close to signing teenage sensation

Romano notes that Finneran is a ‘huge talent’, and that is why this could end up being a massively important deal for Newcastle United.

This is a player who made his Blackburn Rovers debut at the age of 15-years-old, competing in the FA Cup last season. That was a tremendous show of faith in Finneran’s ability, and he is set to bring that ability to the North East.

Given he is only 16, you would assume that Finneran will start with the Newcastle United youth setup. However, he will have ambitions of quickly rising through the ranks. And he has seen that Eddie Howe will give you a chance if you are good enough, with Lewis Miley making his competitive Toon debut at the age of 17-years-old.

Finneran will hope to follow in Miley’s footsteps, before eventually playing alongside him in black and white.

With a deal for Finneran imminent, he looks set to be the second major teenage recruit this summer.

The Magpies have also brought in Miodrag Pivas, who is a 19-year-old defender from Serbia. Pivas was recently pictured with Serbian legend Nemanja Matic saying his goodbyes to FK Jedinstvo Ub, as he gets set to start his new life on Tyneside.
