Newcastle United’s transfer business this summer has been criticised.
Indeed, few would doubt it proved an underwhelming transfer window for Newcastle, who failed to significantly strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad, as Alan Shearer pointed out.
It is of course worth noting that spending was down across the Premier League this summer, albeit there were a few exceptions.
While that doesn’t make it any easier to accept from a Newcastle perspective, it does provide some context at the very least.
Frustration over a slow window should also not be confused for disappointment about who the club actually signed.
There is hope behind the scenes that Lloyd Kelly will be able to develop nicely under Howe’s watch, while fellow new arrival William Osula should also provide another option up front.
Now, the 21-year-old has opened up on the move to St James’ Park, which came somewhat out of left field last month.
How Will Osula really felt about joining Newcastle this summer
Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, the forward opened up on the whirlwind that took him from Championship side Sheffield United to Newcastle.

“It actually happened very quickly,” he said.
“I thought there were a lot of ‘rumours’ about me going to Newcastle, but I didn’t look into it. I was very focused on the Sheffield United season starting soon.
“All of a sudden Sheffield came and told me that Newcastle wanted to pick me up and that they would accept the offer.
“When they told me, I was a bit in shock, but I was just so happy. I was still like – Wow, it’s Newcastle now.
“It is something that I am very proud of. It’s a big club. Newcastle is a huge club and I am very happy to have made the switch to Newcastle from Sheffield United.
“My time will come. So I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen in the future.”
Newcastle have high hopes for Will Osula
Clearly, it would have been nice if Newcastle were to have made more signings who looked ready to have made an instant impact in the first-team.
Still, that doesn’t mean players like Kelly and Osula cannot help the cause this season.
Howe has been full of praise for the striker’s start to life in training with Newcastle, while there is understood to be a confidence that the manager can develop Osula into a Premier League-ready marksman.
With Alexander Isak pretty much guaranteed to start when fit and Callum Wilson still at the club, Osula should have the chance to develop.
Hopefully, that long-term approach to his development can benefit the club both this season and in the years to come.
