Nick Woltemade’s future at Newcastle United has been the subject of much debate after losing his place in the team.
Indeed, reports in Germany suggest that Woltemade is unhappy at Newcastle United, with William Osula and now Yoane Wissa seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order right now.
Where do YOU stand on the Nick Woltemade debate? 👀
It leaves major question marks over his future heading into the summer transfer window.
Still, German football expert Florian Plettenberg has provided an update.
Woltemade happy at Newcastle but lack of game time could see him leave
Taking to social media platform X, Plettenberg said that Woltemade’s primary aim heading into the summer is to stay on Tyneside – although things could change if he continues to sit on the bench.
The forward is said to enjoy a good relationship with Howe and feels comfortable at the club.
How many more goals does William Osula need to score for people to take him seriously as a striker for next season? 🤔
Bagging the winner against Forest might help 😂
That does not always mean all that much, however.
Newcastle surely cannot have the most expensive player in their history sitting on the bench for another season.
His very presence in the squad has caused something of a culture war online. Having him in a back-up role next season too would only invite more questions of the forward, Howe and the recruitment team who signed him in the first place.
A big offer for Nick Woltemade would change everything
While Newcastle should keep Woltemade this summer, a compelling offer would obviously change the situation somewhat.
At this point, there have to be major doubts as to whether he can ever succeed in the Premier League – at least playing in a Howe team.

Quite whether or not Howe should adapt to bring out the best of a player like that is another matter entirely.
It certainly looks as if Howe is staying on as Newcastle manager, which would suggest a radical change in system is not at all likely.
As such, Woltemade may continue to struggle for game time, which would mean an acceptable offer might genuinely prove to be rather tempting.
It’d be a shame to lose him but the situation, given all the costs involved, surely cannot continue like this for much longer.
