The future of Allan Saint-Maximin at Newcastle United is up in the air heading into the summer transfer window.
While Newcastle are currently planning for the Champions League, it is unclear whether or not those plans will include Saint-Maximin.
The Frenchman caused major confusion with his latest Instagram post, where he released a lengthy statement talking about his Newcastle career and the difficulties he has faced this season. In the statement Maxi said he is ‘now entering a turning point in my career’, which perhaps hints at a move away from St James’ Park.
Saint-Maximin’s message to supporters begs more questions than answers, and will only lead to more speculation about a possible Toon exit.
Now i News have provided an update on how the club feel about Saint-Maximin’s future.

Newcastle would like to keep Allan Saint-Maximin right now
According to i News, Newcastle currently plan to keep Saint-Maximin for next season. However, the report adds that an offer of £40million could be enough to tempt the Magpies to change their mind.
i News add that the future of Saint-Maximin is ‘one to watch’ during the summer transfer window.
It sounds like Newcastle won’t actively look to sell ASM, but will at least consider it if a big enough offer comes in. That is probably sensible, as there will come a time when the Magpies need to sell and move players on for financial reasons.
At the moment, that is not as easy. Their most sellable assets are star players like Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman, who Newcastle want to keep for a long time. Other players are much older like Callum Wilson who won’t fetch as much money.
But Saint-Maximin is different. He is at the ideal age at 26, while he has not been as much of a key player for Eddie Howe this season. He has seriously struggled with injury, limiting his minutes in a black and white shirt.

Newcastle have succeeded without Maxi, which is something they previously struggled to do. In the past, the thought of being without the winger was unbearable. Now it would be much more palatable – even if Saint-Maximin remains a fan favourite on Tyneside. Simply put, an offer of around £40million would be really difficult to turn down.
In an ideal world, Saint-Maximin stays put. When he is fit and firing, there are not many players you would rather watch. He is a performer, but can be ruthless too when he is on form.
There is a long time to go between now and the end of the transfer window, so expect to read a lot more stories about ASM in the coming weeks and months. For now, the plan appears to be to keep him, but that could always change.
