Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Allan Saint-Maximin gave an interview to Sport.Fr.
When speaking to the news outlet, our French winger revealed that he would consider leaving St James’ Park if the club didn’t match his ‘desires’ in the game and also wasn’t developing well.
He said: ‘For my part, everything will depend on this development. If the club is developing well and it is in line with my desires, staying is a possibility. Afterwards, if things don’t turn out like that, obviously the question of leaving will arise.’
Saint-Maximin also expressed his ambitions to play European football. Now, while it remains to be seen if the 23-year-old spends years on Tyneside or not, the St James’ Park faithful are more than accustomed to this sort of heartbreak.
The likes of Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba both pushed on in their careers after leaving Newcastle for greener grass, securing moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea respectively.
There is no reason why Saint-Maximin can’t make a similar move to a heavyweight club in a few years, given his exquisite talent and also the fact he has time on his side at just 23 years of age.
These comments will naturally come as a concern, as it feels far-fetched to see us qualifying for Europe anytime soon under Steve Bruce – Newcastle either need to make huge chances to match the Frenchman’s ambitions, or convince him to stay using another method.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about Saint-Maximin’s revelation…

Be careful what you wish for 1good game against a very poor Burnley team doesn’t make you a champion, let’s see you do it against the top 6 clubs instead of being injured when we play them.

I don’t blame him and I would hope he has ambitions like that, what’s the point in having players if they’re not ambitious.

Everyone knew nufc was a stepping stone to a better club for him ,ashley will not care if he can get at least double what he paid for him

Newcastle can’t even match Matty Longstaffs ambitions. We are a stepping stone club and nothing else under Ashley. ASM will be off the first chance he gets and none of the fans will blame him.
