A potential move taking Anthony Gordon away from Newcastle United and into the arms of Bayern Munich has hit a stumbling block.

Indeed, Bayern are interested in signing Gordon this summer, with the England international tipped to be at least one of the key players Newcastle United sell at the end of the season.

Gordon is reportedly open to joining Bayern amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, although reports in the German media suggest the potential move has hit a snag.

Bayern refusing to pay Newcastle’s asking price for Gordon

According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern will not meet Newcastle’s current asking price for Gordon.

They suggest the Magpies are looking for between £69-£77million for the former Everton winger.

That, really, is a fair reflection on Gordon’s market value. Though consistency has been an issue at Premier League level, he has a long-term deal on Tyneside and is a regular figure in the England squad.

Newcastle cannot be taken for a ride. The Alexander Isak saga may well have been painful and littered with mistakes, but no one can turn their noses up at the actual amount of money the club received for him.

There is little need for them to sell cheaply. It clearly doesn’t mean that Newcastle don’t need to sell at some point, but the idea that they can be dictated over prices is wrong.

Gordon is seemingly attracting an awful lot of interest months before the summer transfer window. At this stage, a potential bidding war cannot be discounted.

As such, Newcastle are in a strong position to stick to their demands. If Bayern refuse to match them, perhaps a Premier League club will.

None of this means that Gordon will categorically stay at Newcastle this summer. The Magpies, however, look to be in a strong position to negotiate his potential exit on their terms.

It looks like being a big summer ahead for Gordon.
