Geordie MP has asked ‘incredible’ winger if he is joining Newcastle

They say keep politics out of football but in this case I’m willing to make an exception as Geordie MP Martin Callanan bumped into Newcastle United target Sadio Mane and couldn’t resist shooting his shot.

The 31-year-old Champions League winner look set to leave Bayern Munich this summer as things haven’t gone according to plan for the former Liverpool star.

Sadio Mane scored “only” seven goals in 25 appearances for Bayern Munich last season, and following a fallout with Leroy Sane, it looks like the Senegalese winger’s time is up in Germany.

Newcastle have been keeping tabs on Mane’s situation

Newcastle have their sights on ‘incredible‘ winger, Mane as they look to increase their attacking options ahead of what is likely to be a very tough season.

Given his experience playing at the absolute top level of football, Sadio Mane would be a stunning addition to the squad, however his enormous wages could be an issue for the Magpies. He’s currently bringing in a staggering £306,000-a-week according to SalarySport.

That is way above what Newcastle will be willing to pay. The club are in talks to make Bruno Guimaraes the club’s highest paid player at what’s believed to be around £200,000-a-week.

Mane hasn’t ruled out the possibility of joining Newcastle

However, there could be something in the link. Newcastle based MP Lord Martin Callanan posted a tweet saying he’d met Sadio Mane and couldn’t resist asking him if he was Newcastle-bound and Mane’s reply was: “Never say never”.

Lord Callanan tagged The Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder in the tweet to ask if there was any chance. While Ryder didn’t reply to the tweet, he did run with the story for The Chronicle.

The big question is, was Mane being serious or just having a bit of fun?

While it would be a fantastic coup for Newcastle, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mane move to the Saudi Pro League where he’ll be able to maintain his high wages.

However … Never say never.
