Former Newcastle United transfer target Wout Weghorst is set to leave Wolfsburg.
The striker is working on his farewell at the club, after recently changing agents according to Bild.
He could depart next month if the Bundesliga outfit can get a replacement in.
The report rates Weghorst chances of remaining with Wolfsburg for the second half of the season as ‘more questionable than ever’.
they claim interested parties should offer at least £17 million for the player, who is under contract until the summer of 2023.
Weghorst has hit six league goals so far this season.
He has a really solid goalscoring record for his current club of 70 goals in 140 games.
The Dutch international would certainly make a brilliant addition for someone at around £17 million.
Interestingly, Newcastle reportedly tried to sign Weghorst in the past.
Apparently the Magpies attempted to bring him in in the summer of 2020.
In the end, the club moved for Callum Wilson which has obviously proven to be a good move.
But perhaps Newcastle may look to reignite their previous interest in Weghorst if his future at Wolfsburg is now in doubt.

Newcastle’s focus in January needs to be on securing quality defenders. That really is essential.
But the Magpies could also do with acquiring some extra firepower.
Wilson will score goals for Newcastle but his injury record is a slight concern.
Other than the 29-year-old, it is hard to see where the goals will come from in the team. Allan Saint-Maximin is obviously a huge talent, but does lack consistency and isn’t a natural centre-forward.
Weghorst is a proven goalscorer in a European top five league and also very physicaly. Former Wolsburg striker Grafite said of him a few years ago: “Wout is great, I love the way he plays – it reminds me of Edin. “I think he can score more next season. He’s not quite at Edin’s level yet, but he’s on the right path to become a top striker.”
Arguably now he is that ‘top striker’, and Newcastle ought to make some enquiries.
