It was an all-action display that saw him create three chances and win eight ground duels.
One of the most impressive aspects of his display was the way he regularly surged forwards with the ball at his feet.
Newcastle were linked with a loan move for Gilmour in the summer (Northern Echo).
Steve Bruce was in the market to revamp his midfield but in the end, only Joe Willock came in for the Magpies.
It is already looking as though Newcastle have missed out on an amazing talent.
